On 9 November, we celebrate the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. This event moved people all over the world and symbolises the end of the division of Germany. But the Peaceful Revolution did not end with this moment – on the contrary: the debates about which country people wanted to live in really began. People emancipated themselves from the dictatorship and seized the opportunity to actively help shape the path to a new system. Long-demanded basic rights such as freedom of expression and free elections could finally be realised. New parties emerged and a new constitution was discussed intensively at the Central Round Table.

With the programme ‘Revolution! – And then?’, the partners of the Stasi Centre. Campus for Democracy invite you to a one-day democracy festival and to exchange views on the commitment to democracy and human rights, the Peaceful Revolution and coming to terms with injustice in the GDR.

Action day ‘Revolution! – and then?’ on the Campus for Democracy

Visitors can expect a varied programme of theatre, films, guided tours, exhibitions, talks and music. Parts of the open-air installation ‘Hold up freedom!’ from 8 and 9 November will also be exhibited along the course of the Wall.

The day of action is a co-operation between the Robert Havemann Society, Kulturprojekte Berlin, the Federal Archive – Stasi Records Archive, the Axel Springer Freedom Foundation, the Berlin Commissioner for the Reappraisal of the SED Dictatorship and is being produced by buero doering.
